Hansa prescribes stock management and accounting software solution for Newmarket Laboratories Ltd UK medical diagnostic kit manufacturer, Newmarket Laboratories Ltd, has placed an order with software reseller, ABS Ltd, for a fully integrated stock management and accounting software suite from Hansa Business Solutions, as part of an order valued in the region of £10,000.
The Hansa solution will enable Newmarket Laboratories Ltd (NewLabs) to effectively monitor and control its stock levels and financial management processes in order to streamline its highly complex diagnostic manufacturing operations.
Jude Prophet, Accountant at NewLabs, explains, "As a fully integrated financials and stock management software suite, the speed, ease of use and flexibility of Hansa is truly excellent. A lot of software products are claiming to offer this level of integration but Hansa is one of the few companies that is able to deliver against this promise."
She continues, "The complexities of our manufacturing operations require us to drill down to a very detailed level of analysis. Using Hansa we can handle large volumes of stock at any one time and cope with component variations in each bill of material such as micrograms, grams, millilitres, or litres. In addition, we are very easily able to attribute individual batch numbers to every single item, which means we have tight control over stock traceability - this adds significantly to our bottom line and our quality control functions."
NewLabs fulfils contracts that individually can take as long as two to three weeks to manufacture and process, requiring in the region of £50,000-£60,000 worth of raw materials to be in stock at any one time. In addition, the company is subject to an audit every six months in order to comply with ISO 9001 certification. Having outgrown its existing Sage Line 100 accounting system, which was unable to cope with such demands on the business, NewLabs recognised that it needed to invest in a more sophisticated business management system to support growth.
Having opted to implement Hansa, the company is now able to access business-critical information via a central database easily and effectively. This allows the company to utilise stock levels and improve the efficiency of its financial operations, removing the need to re-key data at any stage of the manufacturing and invoicing cycle.
Jude Prophet explains, "The level of flexibility, automation and integration between stock management and cost accounting within Hansa means not only that we can improve our stock and financial control, but also combat stock wastage through better management of over and under usage of materials. Previously such discrepancies were not highlighted until the end of the month - now we have real-time information available at our fingertips on a daily basis."

Newlabs purchased the software from Hansa reseller ABS Limited. Jude Prophet concludes, "It appears that Hansa Business Solutions not only work closely with their end-users to ensure a smooth implementation, but they have surrounded themselves with a network of resellers, such as ABS, that are providing fantastic back-up support.
As there were so few financial solutions available on the Mac platform, we did consider installing PC systems to make our selection process easier, though such a change posed huge cost implications. However, Hansa presented us with the only viable alternative that complied with our preference to continue operating on a Mac network, at an extremely competitive price.
